Egg Crazy!

So, I thought I was excited over egg #1....well let me tell you egg #2 is so much more rewarding.  So yesterday as I posted we finally were rewarded with our first egg, so early this morning I had my Saturday morning soak in the hot tub (BTW- I highly recommend them) and then excitedly headed out to the coop hoping to find more little wonders but sadly walked back to the house with an empty basket.  But a few hours later I figured I'd give them one more chance and wouldn't you know there it was in all it's glory our second perfectly shaped egg but this one was twice the size of yesterdays and very impressive!  Here is a picture of it next to a store bought large egg!  I never realized how excited this girl from the city- turned country would be over a couple eggs but nature and wildlife never ceases to amaze me!  I love it!  Have a great weekend and enjoy the beautiful weather we are getting in WI/MN!  Until next time happy Blogging!

Hard work and patience pays off!

The EGG
I was so pleasantly surprised this morning when I discovered our first egg in a nesting box!  I was beginning to wonder if I was doing things all wrong because the wait for these little wonders was getting unbearable but it just goes to show you with a little patience and love and poop scooping eggs are bound to come along and this one could not be more perfect.  The pale shade of green, the tiny shade!  Just amazing!  I am so sorry I have been so negligent to my blog readers but life as always gets in the way but I have been taking many pictures of our progress and my lovely feathered ladies.  Here are a couple of my favorites.  The coop is not finished but with cold weather approaching we will have to step up our efforts but I am so very happy with the progress thus far and my recent reward tells me the girls are happy with their home! We lost a few along  the way but we do have a wonderful flock and I can't wait 'til next spring to add a few more ladies.
No more store bought eggs for me!

The Chicken Operative

So after much consideration and two years of "talking" it over the hubby and alot of begging from the boys we, well I decided to take the leap and buy some chickens!  Ahhh!  What am I doing?!  Actually it's not that bad but I took a leap and being a city girl with no "livestock" experience I'm slowing working it all out.  We lost three babies ( very, very sad face) but I think in it we have all learned some valuable lessons in chick raising and hopefully future members of our flock will thus flourish.  We started a bit backwards and weren't as prepared as we should have been before bringing the girls home but that's the way I work sometimes, actually I couldn't get my coop built until it was absolutely necessary which meant buy the chicks and he'll have to built it, wink, wink.  So we started our chicken adoption day early and made an hour drive to the city...ha, imagine that living in the country and buying chickens from the city, doesn't really make much sense but again that's the way I roll, senseless.  So we picked up three beautiful 4 week old Wyandottes; two silver-laced and one gold-laced...Dotte, Henrietta, and Mable and braved the journey home.  Not having planned the whole " where are these chickens gonna go" thing out I borrowed Dakota, our very generous German Shepherd's kennel and the girls set up shop, I did think ahead a bit and they had food and water available.  Then set off on another road trip this time only 45 minutes away and smack in the middle of no where, these chickens are as country as they come.  We purchased 7 brand new chicks- three Columbian Wyandottes and four Blue-lace Red Wynadottes from an extremely wonderful family and lets just say better kept chickens compared to the "city" ladies.  Sparkle, Ethel, Mimi, Tiny, Shiny, Greasy, and Pearl. The boys were so excited and smiled all the way home, which made all the effort a success.  That is the short version of our adoption day, there were so many crazy but unimportant details in there, but bottom line I started down a crazy chicken filled road and am very excited to share more with you wonderful readers of mine.

This post is dedicated to Sparkle, Ethel, and Shiny.  For the short time you were with us we loved you.

Brighten It Up!

It's been a long time coming but I finally got my living room/dining/kitchen makeover done, well for now anyway.  I still have a few little projects yet to complete but I am so happy with this redo.  It is bright and airy and has little quirky touches here and there.  A chalkboard wall in the kitchen, pink light in the dining room, white painted furniture, fun wall decals and tons more!  I also got the cowhide rug I had been searching for....Sam's Club!  I went for a country/beach look.  I am still on the look out for another old boat oar I can paint and put over my living room window....my quick fix for curtains too short to raise to the ceiling.  I finally got the decorating bug back and am excited for another garden growing season.  Hope all my readers haven't forgotten about me and remember make it your own and love your space.

So Much Going On

So I've been extremely bad this year so far with my blog and I have some pretty legitimate excuses.... I had been working crazy weeks and balancing that and my motherly duties has been a struggle but I think I'm finally getting things situated. I finally got a job I had been looking to get since I decided to go back to work and am loving it. Aside from the last three weeks of sickness in our house (let me tell you it hasn't been easy) things are actually going pretty good. I am actually pretty happy right now in my life and that is always good. I have been losing the weight I have been struggling with losing for....well, since I had my first baby and am once again enjoying clothing and just taking care of myself. Not much design projects happening this winter but I'm sure come spring all will be restored ;). We are currently working on fixing a hot tub we picked up last week and I am so excited to get my first soak and jazzing up my deck this spring for it! All in all things are great and until next time happy blogging.

Chalk Paint!

So I'm thinking very soon I will be experimenting with chalk paint....so exciting.  I just need to come up with a color and buy some soft wax and a brush and I think I will be all set to paint my kitchen island!  I was going to buy the chalk paint until I read this blog and am so excited for the cheaper option.    http://www.lisaroy.ca/2011/12/homemade-chalk-paint-console-makeover.html

I will keep you all posted on my progress...I know I've been bad at posting and I will try to do better but you know how January goes- taxes, organizing life and what not.  I am also trying to work,  to find a new job and loss weight...way, way to much on my plate but I will get back to my passion soon enough and start some projects, yay!
Happy Blogging!
